Spring is in full swing, which means that along with the snow, the asphalt is gone from the roads. Travelling on these roads is more of an extreme adventure than a safe route from home to work. But worst of all, the potholes and potholes that the road infrastructure is in no hurry to repair can cost you tyres and discs as well as steering repairs.
Hitting a pothole - does it equal an accident?
The main rule of the road is to be careful. Damage to your car or health can be caused not only by another driver, but also by the roadway. Even if you or your passengers are not injured when you hit a pothole, it is still classified as an accident.
What should you strain under these circumstances?👌
Stop the vehicle (do not move);
Get into the emergency lane and put up an emergency sign;
Do not touch or move objects related to the accident;
If there are victims, provide them with all possible first aid and call an ambulance;
Call the traffic police.
If other motorists cannot pass, clear the roadway or arrange a detour, having previously taken a photograph or video recording of any important details of the incident;
Record the contact details of eyewitnesses;
Wait for the traffic police at the scene.
It is important to note the fact that it is impossible to recognise an accident under the European Protocol. The reason for this is the fact that you are the only person involved. Once you have left the scene of the accident, it will be very difficult to prove that the car was damaged precisely because of a fall into a particular pit.
If you do not have CASCO, then you will have to make your own decision about compensation. In this situation, you will need to have an independent MOT in order to be reimbursed and it is undesirable to repair the vehicle prior to the inspection.
If you have CASCO and you have damaged your car on the road, in that case it belongs to the insurance. At the same time, the CASCO should cover all damages. Of course, you should first read the contract and clarify whether the damaged part is included in the list covered by insurance.
The traffic police will not leave you at the scene of an accident. For this, you need to call roadside assistance, which will take your vehicle to a nearby garage or to an address you specify.
24-hour roadside assistance is always available.
