In this blog, we will try to explain in the most readable way the most important things you should do if you find yourself stranded on a main road or artery
What to do if we get stuck on a motorway or a first class road?!
There can be many causes, engine failure, chassis failure, flat tire or accident.
It is of utmost importance at such a time to keep calm and seek professional help and advice.
- If the vehicle can NOT move on the move
-the vehicle must be marked with a reflective warning triangle, which is placed behind the vehicle (in the lane in which it is located, opposite the direction of movement of the surrounding vehicles), with a red light or otherwise visible to other drivers. As an additional signal to indicate a damaged vehicle, the activation of an emergency signal or the use of position lights may also be used; On a road outside a populated area at night or in reduced visibility, any vehicle stopped in the carriageway must be indicated by the use of position lights.
!!!The reflective warning triangle is placed (after the damaged vehicle) at a distance of at least 30 metres (in the lane occupied by the vehicle) and against the direction of traffic of the surrounding vehicles. If the failure occurs on a motorway, expressway or road with a speed limit exceeding 90 km/h, the retro-reflective warning triangle shall be placed at a distance of not less than 100 metres behind the vehicle.
-How do we determine how much is 30 or 100 meters?
In steps. The normal stride of an adult is about 50 cm long, which is 0.5 meters. I.e. 2 steps equals 1 meter, therefore 60 steps is 30 meters, etc.
When should a damaged car not be moved?
There are failures described in the Road Traffic Act, the occurrence of which makes it absolutely forbidden to move the vehicle on its own. And these are:
- Damage to the main brake system - when brake fluid or air leaks or when the performance of the brake system does not meet the regulatory requirements, whereby the stability of the vehicle is impaired or its braking distance is extended;
- Pneumatic brake system failure - when the compressor does not provide the air pressure required to power the system;
- Damage to the steering system - where parts and assemblies are unsecured, not secured against self-unwinding, or damaged beyond repair;
- Damage to the frame, cab, body and ancillary equipment when:
- the rear-view mirrors are missing or damaged (unless the driver has a direct view of the road from his seat through the rear and side windows);
- wipers do not work in rain or snow;
- the towing device of the towing vehicle or trailer or the towing device of the tractor or semi-trailer is defective; - Powertrain damage - if the clutch is not working, missing or damaged driveshaft mounts or half shafts;
- Wheel damage - if one of the wheels has a damaged wheel rim, the wheel rim is damaged, missing or damaged wheel hub attachment;
- Fuel leak faults;
- If the vehicle's lights or reflectors are missing or faulty when driving at night;
- If any of the vehicle's tyres are torn.
