From 12 July 2021. new vehicle roadworthiness certificates will be issued, and new stickers. В the eco stickers will affect - ecothe logical group of the vehicle.
Changes in the Ordinance on the roadworthiness of road vehicles stipulate: all cars must have eco stickers.
The new stickers will record the car's environmental group.
What are the vehicle's environmental group stickers?
The eco-category will be recorded in a chip that will be embedded in the annual roadworthiness test sticker. The sticker will be placed on the windscreen of the car (in the middle behind the rear view mirror), not to the side as before, and will be valid until the next MOT.
The information on the sticker will be read remotely. The environmental group is different from the environmental category defined by the manufacturer.
The sticker will be issued for cars and light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 t. The sticker will contain the full information from the MOT test, but it will be encrypted and for use by certain services only.
The only visible information is the environmental group and the vehicle registration number.
This means that the current sticker for passing a roadworthiness test will effectively be abolished.
How many environmental groups are there?
They are 5 in number. The fifth and highest applies to electric and hybrid cars. The remaining cars, which run on petrol, diesel and various types of gas, are grouped into the other 4 groups.
Cars with the highest category, category five, will not be stopped from driving on dirty air days. Cars in the Euro 1 and Euro 2 groups will be restricted. In Sofia, the restriction will apply to central areas.
If a Euro 1 or Euro 2 car passes under these restrictions it will be fined for passing through the central area.
Violators will be caught with cameras that will read the eco-chip remotely. In the centre of the capital are placed 90 cameras.
In the case of vehicles with gas systems, the emissions from the gas engine will be recorded. It is possible that a car with a low Euro category will be given a higher category in this measurement.
How do you get a sticker if you have already passed the GTP?
Anyone who is currently registering their vehicle with the Ministry of the Interior and who will be visiting the town of. Sofia before the date of its annual inspection, will be able to appear at a technical inspection station. There, they will be measured and fitted with the environmental group sticker.
From 12 January 2022, the results of the measurements at the roadworthiness test stations will be fed into the IAAA system, and the system will determine whether the vehicle is roadworthy and what the environmental standard is.
This will put an end to sham reviews. That is to say, the staff at these stations will not actually determine whether the vehicle is roadworthy or not.
What role does the eco sticker play?
When going to Europe in your car, you should check if your route is through the ecological zone of Germany, for example.
When entering this area, be sure to stick a special eco sticker on the windscreen - red, yellow or green.
In order to improve air quality in certain areas with particular exposure to fine particulate matter, such as urban centres, traffic restrictions are needed on certain main roads in certain cities.
These ecological zones can be identified with road signs and only vehicles with an ecological sign will be allowed to drive on it. These eco stickers are issued to vehicles whose parameters meet the emission standards set out in the European Union.
Environmental vehicle classes
Euro 1 standard - the harmful effects of vehicle exhaust fumes. The standards set out therein apply only to petrol-fuelled vehicles. Euro 1 sets the maximum possible content of substances such as nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons in exhaust gases. However, these limits cannot be called rigid.
Euro-2 standard - is the next version of the eco-class of cars, which provides for the content of toxic substances in automobile exhaust gases to be reduced three times.
Euro 3 standard - is the first standard that diesel cars must also meet. The standards on the amount of harmful impurities in exhaust gases have become even stricter. The maximum content of such substances has been reduced by almost 40% compared to the previous edition.
Euro 4 standard - has been in active use in European countries since 2005. Vehicles complying with this environmental class must emit 40% less harmful compounds into the atmosphere than Euro 3 vehicles.
Euro 5 standard - is the latest edition of the environmental standard. Since 2008, the standards of this edition have become mandatory for trucks, and since 2009 also for passenger cars. Currently, only vehicles in this class are allowed to be sold in all countries of the European Union.
