Useful information for every driver!
How can we keep the maximum number of control points? Or even better, how can we prevent them from being taken away?
- First of all, you should know that obtaining a driver's license is a big responsibility. What does this mean?
- In addition to the fact that it is mandatory to follow traffic rules, we must be careful and responsible towards human life, as well as show tolerance towards other road users.
- Awareness – the more informed we are, the more reliable participants we will be on the road.
What are the violations that provide for the withdrawal of checkpoints?
Ordinance No. Iz-2539 From July 2019, to determine the maximum amount of checkpoints, some changes are being introduced in the penalties for which checkpoints are taken away:

A driver who holds a "Driver without penalties" control card, issued in accordance with Regulation No. I-157 on the conditions and procedure for issuing a driving license for motor vehicles, the driver's report and their discipline, shall not have control points taken away when imposing a penalty for a violation specified in this regulation, with the exception of violations related to driving after using alcohol or narcotics (or their analogues) and refusing to undergo a test for the use of alcohol and/or narcotics.
The maximum number of checkpoints for reporting violations of the Road Traffic Act (RTA) is 39 points.
When initially issuing a driving license (to a new driver), the initial maximum number of checkpoints will be 26 checkpoints (and not 39 as was the case before).
After acquiring two years of driving experience, the driver receives an additional 13 control points. The maximum number of control points cannot be greater than 39 points.
Important! Depriving us of points is not the only sanction; in individual cases, according to the provisions of the law, we may be fined, have our license taken away, or be sentenced to imprisonment.
What should we do if we still lose some of our control points?
There are two options according to the law:
- Officially by the Ministry of Interior authorities to the maximum extent, after two years from the date on which the last penal decree came into force, which took away our checkpoints, i.e. we must be impeccable for 2 years.
- By partially increasing by 1/3 of the initial number of points after completing additional training, but not more than once for a period of 1 year, provided that the driver has paid the penalties (fines) imposed on him, which is certified by the relevant payment documents.
To make it clearer we will use an example:
Imagine that within six months you are fined for using a mobile phone and exceeding the maximum speed limit in a populated area. According to the law, these violations lead to the loss of 18 control points. Within a calendar year you can only enroll in one additional training course, with which you can restore a maximum of 13 control points.
Upon reaching 0 (zero) checkpoints and inspection by a competent authority, the vehicle plates will have to be removed and an administrative fine imposed. Which in itself would lead to the need for Roadside Assistance Services .
