Despite all the innovations in vehicle technology, such as backup cameras, adaptive headlights, and collision avoidance systems, car accidents still happen.
Whether because cars are becoming faster, in addition to being more technologically advanced, or because traffic itself is becoming more congested, accidents continue to be a part of everyday life.
Whether minor or severe, accidents can drastically change anyone's life.
They can lead to loss of work capacity, pain or permanent disability. The causes can be categorized in two ways – human error and everything else.
Most accidents occur due to driver error.
Most traffic accidents are not directly related to the driver's driving skills, but rather the decisions they make behind the wheel. In fact, over 80% of all traffic accidents are caused by human error.
At some point, every driver finds themselves guilty of committing an action that could potentially lead to an accident or a prerequisite for one. Unfortunately, the best teacher is our own mistakes. It is important to draw the right conclusions and build habits for all situations on the road.
Drunk driving
The use of alcohol and other drugs inevitably affects the behavior of the driver. Depending on the type of substance, drivers under the influence of alcohol have slowed reflexes combined with increased self-confidence. The penalties for this offense are severe, and the consequences can be irreversible.
Distraction
After gaining solid experience behind the wheel, many drivers neglect driving. They often talk on the phone and with other passengers in the car, send messages. Others allow themselves to consume food and drinks while driving without realizing that performing many actions at once does not allow them to focus on driving. We should not fool ourselves that if we can do several things in normal conditions, we will also be able to react adequately in extraordinary ones.
Failure to obey traffic lights and stop signs
The purpose of traffic signals is to both organize traffic and prevent accidents. Every time a driver runs a red light or fails to stop at a stop sign, they are setting the stage for a potential accident. Arriving a minute or two later will not drastically change the course of events.
Speeding
Whether they are in a hurry or doing it for fun, some drivers drive aggressively, overtaking in all lanes, including the one for public transport buses. They do not respect road markings, as well as a number of signs. This behavior is dangerous for all road users and it is right to report it to the responsible institutions.
Fatigue
Fatigue is a factor that people often overlook, yet a large percentage of drivers have fallen asleep at the wheel. Even professional drivers do it because they have to drive longer than the allowed time.
External factors causing accidents
Sometimes even the most careful drivers become victims of traffic accidents, but through no fault of their own. There can always be external factors that affect the vehicle and the driving conditions.
Bad road conditions
Large potholes, missing road markings, broken or stolen road signs are a common sight in Bulgaria. Despite the partial improvement of the road network, we should avoid bad routes. If you notice missing road signs, report it to the local town hall or municipality. They, in turn, are obliged to contact a company for the production and installation of road signs and laying road markings.
Weather conditions
Weather can affect driving in many ways. Rain and snowfall can cause icy roads and reduce visibility and vehicle stability. Fog and strong winds also require drivers to be extra careful.
Damage
Unfortunately, sometimes vehicles are damaged in traffic in a way that endangers safety, requiring urgent response from companies to repatrak servicesCar care can drastically reduce the possibility of such events.
