Mercedes W110 - let's go retro

The vintage car driving season has begun! We are delighted when we are called on such occasions. Besides, the pleasure of looking at beautiful classics is also a pleasure to be useful with something to help them. We are not sure about the modification as we missed questioning the owner due to the limited time we had.

Today we take a look at and drive, one of the legends of Mercedes ( most of their models until the 90s are like that, but... ), namely the Mercedes W110, one of the successive models of the brand in the past with the famous robust engines, the so-called millionaires.

In the 1960s, the mid-range, short W110 Mercedes line appeared as a cheaper, economical and medium-luxury car. The Heckflosse series of the W110 initially came with a 1.9 L M121 gasoline or 2.0 L OM621 diesel 4-cylinder inline engine. It was introduced in the 190c and 190Dc saloon models in 1961.

The 1965 Mercedes W110 was so to speak "freshened up" with a newer engine, more economical, and cheaper. Available with the 200 and Diesel 200D (in 1966 and for North America), at the same time the six-cylinder 230 (successor to the Mercedes 220) became part of the W110 line. Production lasted only three more years, with the W115 220 and 220D being introduced in 1968. The W110 and the 6-cylinder W111 were the first series of Mercedes cars to undergo crash test type safety tests ( crashes ) and other reliability and occupant safety related tests. Many of the technologies introduced on these vehicles are still in use today.

Actually the models are w110 and w111, the only difference between them is the engine and the safety, de facto they are the same car. These are the ancestors of today's E-Class

Produced from 1961 until 1968 in a total of 628,282 copies.

Despite the high production, many of the cars were destroyed. In Bulgaria it is also not one of the most common models. There are more of the W111 and models after it, but rarely the W110.
