How to remove and install a car battery?
In fact, the removal of the battery from the car takes about two minutes. The terminals are disconnected, the holders are removed and the battery is ready to be removed.
BUT! It may take longer. The procedure for removing a car accumulator not only requires the availability of tools, but also requires a certain sequence. Both removing, inserting and connecting the battery must also be done correctly.
How do you change a car battery?
There are several factors that can cause premature failure of the the battery. For example, if the car has been parked for a long time. Even if you try to fully charge the battery, it may remain undercharged. This practice will ultimately shorten the “life” of the the battery. And as an addition: improper handling and strong vibrations can loosen or short circuit, which can cause sudden damage to the the battery.
A faulty car battery will not be able to hold a charge and will not be able to provide enough power to start the engine. If this happens, it is best to immediately change the car batteryMost car batteries need to be replaced every four to five years. In variable climates, wet-cell lead-acid batteries may only last two to three years.

Replacing a car battery: instructions
What you need to change a car battery:
- Grease for the terminals of the battery or anti-corrosion agent.
- Contact cleaning tool.
- Open-end wrenches or spanners.
- Ratchet, pliers, screwdriver.
- Latex or nitrile gloves (to protect hands from any aggressive chemicals).
- Safety glasses (recommended)
Tools include a set of suitable wrenches to loosen and tighten the battery bolts and nuts. This can be a ratchet, open-end wrenches, or regular wrenches. You will also need waterproof gloves to protect yourself from acid leaking from the the batteryIf the terminals and contacts are dirty, they will definitely need cleaning, for this use lubricants and special contact cleaners. Finally, don't forget your glasses.
Before you start changing the battery of the car, it is important to know the specifications of your car manufacturer. Some car manufacturers recommend using memory saving programs to avoid problems after installation. Your radio presets and other vehicle network settings may be erased after installing the new battery. You may need to re-enter the security code to get your stereo working again. Some car manufacturers recommend running a memory saving program to avoid problems after installing the new battery. However, not all cars require this.
Car battery replacement instructions
Once you have all the necessary materials, it's time to start changing the battery of the car.
Here is a step-by-step guide on how to safely perform this procedure:
Removing the battery:
1. Make sure all systems are turned off and the key is removed from the ignition.
2. Put on safety glasses and protective gloves.
3. Pay attention to the position of the positive (+) terminals, this will help you insert the battery correctly.
4. Loosen the screws on the cable clamps to disconnect the battery terminals.
5. Disconnect the negative (-) cable first before the positive cable.
6. With the battery terminal cables disconnected, you can now unclip the battery retaining strap. If your battery uses a base clamp instead of a metal clamp, loosen the bolt securing the clamp to the base of the the battery of the car.
7. Remove the battery from the compartment. The battery usually has a strap on top to make the process easier. If not, be careful when removing and moving the battery.
8. Remember to keep the battery upright so that battery acid does not spill out of the covers or vents. Of course, if you are using an Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) battery, you will not have this problem because it does not retain liquid.
9. After you have finished removing the the battery on the car, don't forget to check the place where it was placed the battery at the bottom. If it is damaged or rusty, replace it immediately. For example, if you notice signs of corrosion, clean the contacts and elements that are susceptible to oxidation.
Important: Battery acid can cause painful burns. If you accidentally touch leaked acid, wash your hands immediately with water and neutralize the acid with baking soda.
Installing the battery:
Once you have successfully removed the old one accumulator, it's time to put the new one in.
1. Before installing a new battery, be sure to check its charge level with a digital voltmeter. Ideally, a fully charged accumulator will read between 12.6 and 12.7 volts. If you get a lower voltage, you will need to charge the battery before you put it in. Although car batteries usually come pre-charged, they can slowly lose their charge, especially if they are not used or stored for an extended period of time.
2. Place the battery on the stand. You can now install the main bracket. Make sure you secure the battery firmly by tightening the bracket, as excessive vibration can damage it.
3. Clean the battery terminals with a contact and tool cleaner. Also clean the inside surfaces of the clamps attached to the battery cables. A clean surface will help ensure effective electrical contact.
4. Install the positive cable (+), then the negative cable (-).
5. Tighten the clamps, but be careful not to overtighten them as they may be damaged.
6. To prevent corrosion, apply a light coat of grease to the terminals and clamps before connecting the battery cables.
7. Don't forget to double-check all the connections, straps, and clamps. You can start the car to make sure everything is working properly.
What problems can occur after installing the battery?
- Loose terminals and connections;
- You have entered an incorrect accumulator – with less power;
- Damage to electronics;
- Missing settings on the on-board computer – after installing the battery If an error message appears on your computer, you should visit a service center. They will perform diagnostics and reset your computer.
