Ordinary cars with extraordinary F1 engines

F1 engines are really hard to own and use on a daily basis. Not only because of their expensive maintenance, but
and because of their extreme prices. In addition, they must be heated before ignition.
And those day-to-day aches and pains could turn into an irritating thing, especially when you need to get going right away.

However, there are few cars that have received F1 engines.
And they definitely deserve attention.

1. Porsche Carera GT

Maybe it was only developed because of a secret engine made by Porsche many years before the supercar was even planned for production.
The company was developing an F1 engine for a British racing team called Footwork.
The first concept engine was a 5.5 litre engine, then the final version a 5.7 litre engine, which was also used in the production model.

Features: 5.7 litre V10 engine, 611 hp, 8000 RPM, 590 Nm of torque.

2. Ferrari F50 - 1995-1997

The Ferarri 641 F1 car made in 1990 was the donor of the following F40 model, which performed quite successfully.
It is a known fact that, the F50 was slower than the F40, but its engine was indeed F1 based.
The change from a 3.5-litre to a 4.7-litre engine in this version improves torque, speed and more.
Unfortunately he never participated in a race. However, Ferarri hasn't stopped them from creating a 720bhp F50 GT for the street 🙂.

Features: 4.7 litre V12 engine, 512 hp, 8000 RPM, 470 Nm of torque.

3. Alfa Romeo 164 Procar - 1988

Since the days of the BMW M1 Procar F1, drivers have raced this exact BMW before the first F1 race was organised.
After it was discontinued, a new one was ordered for F1 and the only one in existence at the time was the Alfa Romeo 164 Procar.
Real bodyis of a regular 164 model, but under its hood is a F1 race car.
It uses the only V10 engine that ever existed and their first V10 engine, which unfortunately never made it to race use.

Features: 3.5 litre V10 engine, 620 hp, 13000 RPM, 383 NM torque.

4. Renault Espace F1 - 1995

At the time it had been on sale for about 10 years, Renault decided to create a special model for their tenth anniversary and .... what to choose... their V10 engine which they gilded for F1 cars in this.... van.
The combination is unique and strange.
The same F1 engine was one of their most successful at the time, so... why not ?!
And that's how you end up putting an F1 engine in a Renault RS5.
What's more interesting is that it's even faster than the car with this engine, as it originally had 700bhp, but was upgraded to 820bhp.
Imagine it... the flying reno van that is faster than an F1 car.

Features: 3.5 litre V10 engine, 820 hp, 19000 RPM, 308 Nm of torque.

5. Ford Supervan 3 - 1994

Apart from the Van car of one, there is another one and that is the Ford Supervan 3.
It's actually a mini van with an F1 engine. This model was made at the beginning of the new generation, its idea is advertising for the new product.
But not all Supervan versions were like this, this one was the first to receive an F1 engine, named the Cosworth HB, which had previously been used in the Benetton B193B.

Features: 3.5 litre V8 engine, 710 hp, 13000 RPM, 389 Nm of torque.

6. Yamaha OX99-11 - 1992

With Yamaha entering F1 in 1989 as an engine supplier, they also decided it would be a good idea,
to cram an OX-99 engine into a lightweight carbon sports car.
Unfortunately, their financial situation at the time did not allow them to put into production this awesome super sports car.

Features: 3.5 litre, V12 engine, 400 hp, 10000 RPM, 285 Nm of torque.

7. Mercedes AMG Project One - 2019

As far as I can tell from the rumors about this machine, it will be well worth the wait.
It is reported that Project One will have the current power of F1 engines but in a different engine capacity ( cubic capacity ).
The red zone for revolutions drops from 15000 to 11000 rpm.
The odd thing is that it will only last 50,000 km before going into overhaul, which is small and questionable whether it will be accepted for F1.
The conventional engine will work together with several electric motors.

Features: 1.6 litre V6 engine, 750 hp, 11000 RPM.

8. BMW 1502 - 1966 - 1977

Looking at the specs of this engine, you're probably wondering how come it's an F1 engine... right ?
Some might guess that it's the MBW M10 engine, which is a super famous F1 engine. The same one in 1986 pulled 1500hp out of that small displacement.
This power could only be used during qualifying and then only for a few laps.
Totally different engine, but the block in the car put up for sale is the same.

Characteristics: 1.5 litre, RHD engine, 74 hp, 5800 RPM, 118 Nm torque.
