The Chevrolet Blazer is resurrected!

The Blazer is expected to go on sale from 2019 in three variants - base RS and Premier.

ATLANTA - General Motors, aiming for more profits in the booming U.S. auto market, is resurrecting the admired Chevrolet Blazer relic as a techy but sporty crossover.

The new Blazer, which was last produced in 2005 as SUV of the Year, will be marketed between Chevrolet's compact Equinox and the big Traverse crossovers - which have also been tweaked and reworked for 2018.

American consumers are migrating from cars to crossovers. Chevrolet hopes to capture more of those buyers by offering another innovation in this key segment dominated by Honda, Ford Edge, Nissan Murano, Hyundai Santa Fe and Subaru Outback.

From 2013 to 2017, U.S. sales of midsize crossovers increased by 24%, according to the Automotive News Data Center. The sector increased by 4.4% in the first five months of 2018. This data should be a big opportunity for the new Chevrolet Blazer

The new layout will show class and style, in addition to giving users the freedom to make slight changes to the grille for example...

The five-passenger crossovers are designed in line with the latest updates to Chevrolet's lineup, but take a much more aggressive and sculptural approach. It features a graceful double grille similar to that of the refreshed 2019 Camaro SS and sleek, horizontal LED daylight running lights between the headlights.

John Cafaro, Chevrolet's executive director of design, said the vehicle is styled as "attitude" while "delivering on the promise of versatility at the heart of every Chevy crossover and SUV."

Powering the front-wheel-drive car will be a standard 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 193bhp and plenty of torque. A 3.6-liter V-6 engine is also available, offering 305 hp and even more torque. Both direct-injected engines are equipped with smart braking technology and come with a nine-speed transmission.

The Blazer's maximum payload is about 4,500 pounds with the V-6 engine.

GM will build the Blazer at a plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, along with the Chevrolet Equinox crossover and Chevrolet Cruze hatchback. It is based on GM's C1XX crossover platform, which also underpins the Cadillac XT5 and GMC Acadia. Longer wheelbases are also in the 2018 models, the Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave.

Traction Select is standard on all models and allows real-time adjustment of the vehicle's driving mode. On all models the wheel drive also allows the system to be completely disengaged from the rear axle, meaning drivers can choose to operate their vehicle on the move when not required. A state-of-the-art advanced dual clutch system will be available on RS and Premier models.

Inside, there will be a standard 8-inch color touchscreen with Chevrolet's infotainment, 4G LTE Wi-Fi and Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility. On RS and Premier models, Chevrolet's standard cargo management system, with a fence that helps confine smaller items, dividing the cargo space.

Available features (mostly on the RS and Premier) include advanced navigation systems, electronic locking, heated outboard rear seats, adaptive cruise control and wireless charging.

GM introduced the K5 Blazer name in 1969 as part of the Chevrolet C/K truck family.

Automotive magnate GM said it sold more than 8 million Blazers, with annual U.S. deliveries typically exceeding 200,000 from the mid-1990s through 2000, the Automotive News Data Center reported. Production of the model was discontinued in early 2005 amid slumping demand for SUV models, rising fuel prices and a shift in consumer preference toward sports cars and other types of crossovers.
