9 of the most obscure AMG models in existence

AMG are known for their incredibly tough cars and especially for big torque numbers and horsepower hustle.
That AMG abbreviation is strongly associated with V8 engines and mostly Mercedes, but it wasn't always that way.
This company is famous and it is clear to everyone that it works with Mercedes.
However, in this list that I'm about to present to you, I'm hopeful that there's at least one car that you've never heard of. In the article you will also see several models that are not Mercedes

1. Mitsubishi Galant AMG - 1989 - 1990

Seeing 4G63 and AMG lettering on the same car seems ...odd to say the least. But the AMG company actually became part of Mercedes in 1990. Before that, they had no problem tuning any manufacturer's models. And that's how this unique Mitsubishi Galant AMG, uniquely tuned by Affalterbach, came out

Features: 1997 cc engine, 4 cylinder, 170 hp engine with 6750 RPM and 191 Nm of torque.

2. Mercedes-Benz SL70 ( R129 ) - 1998

If you've ever searched for AMG models, you've probably come across quite a few places mentioning the SL73 AMG. But it's important to note that there is an earlier modified model and it's the SL70. Which has a seven-litre M102 engine, which is even rarer than the SL73 AMG models of '85. And by the way the same engines were used in Pagani Zondas.

Features: 7 litre, V12 engine, 496 hp, 5500 RPM and 720 Nm of torque.

3. Mercedes R63 AMG ( W251 ) 2006 - 2007

The Mercedes R63 AMG is one of the most ridiculous cars in existence. It shares the M156 engine with many other AMG models released during that time, including the C63. This model is anything but sporty, fast, beautiful and performs well... Its handling is very difficult considering its elephantine weight of 2500 kg :O ... Poor sales put an end to this project very quickly.

Features: 6 litre, V8 engine with 510 hp, 6800 RPM, 630 Nm of torque.

4. Mercedes-Benz 300E AMG Hammer ( W124 )- 1986 - 1988

The Hammer is a special and unique project based on the 300E. The original 3 litre 6 cylinder M104 engine of this model has been removed and replaced by a 5 litre V8 M117 engine. Of course, it could have been more at the customer's request. The engine gets a DOHC head from AMG, a redesigned transmission... and the largest Torque differential.

Specifications: 5,953cc, 385bhp V8 and 5500 RMP with 566Nm of torque.

5. Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG ( R172 ) - 2011 - 2015

Although SLK models are Mercedes' smallest roadsters, they've never been known for their lightness. But in the model's third generation, AMG are changing things radically, with their Veseria perhaps the only one in a long time. Even the name carries the engine's actual cubic capacity. The SLK55 , indeed had a 5.5 liter M152 engine, something rarely seen unlike the other models.

Specifications: 5,461 cc, 421 hp V8, 6800 RPM and 540 Nm of torque.

6. Mercedes-Benz C30 CDI AMG ( W203 ) - 2001 - 2004

W203 C-Class models have quite a few versions from AMG. In addition to the petrol versions of the C32 and C55, there are also diesel versions produced. This is the C30 CDI AMG with a very rare AMG 5 cylinder, turbo diesel engine.

Characteristics: 3 l. TDI, 5 cylinders, 231 hp, 3800 RPM, torque of 540 Nm.

7. Mercedes-Benz 190E 3,2 AMG ( W201 ) - 1987 - 1991

The W201 190E is known for its Cosworth versions with 2.3 and especially 2.5 litre engines.
The 2.5-16 EVO II is now a highly prized vehicle. But besides it there is a different and no less interesting version called Baby Hammer. Namely the 3.2 AMG with 16 valves and 231 hp.

Features: 3, litre 6-cylinder in-line engine with 231 hp, 5750 RPM and 305 Nm of torque.

8. Mercedes-Benz 300SL AMG ( W198 ) - 1996 - 2006

The legendary 300SL is a global treasure and yet there are still customers who are not completely satisfied with it. They approached Mercedes with their complaints and that's how the manufacturer transformed 11 models even three roadsters with M119, 6 litre engines.
Redesigned automatic transmission, suspension, even the dash and added new modern wheels. Each one costs €1m, and one of the customers who ordered one is the Sultan of Brunei.

Features: 5.9 litre V8, 385 hp, 5500 RPM and 58 Nm of torque.

9. Mitsubishi Debonair V3000 Royal AMG - 1986 - 1989

Speaking of Japanese AMGs, back in the days before the official partnership of AMG and Mercedes, the Debonair was one of Mitsubishi's flagship front-wheel-drive models. This model had only one V6 engine with several different configurations. Mitsubishi approached AMG and in their response received a modified Debonair model. Unfortunately, the changes were only cosmetic without any engine or chassis changes. 🙁

Features: 3 litre V6, 150 hp, 5000 RPM with 231 Nm of torque.
